How to Deal with Postpartum Hair Loss

During pregnancy, you may experience a "surprise" sensation about your thick, shiny hair. But the sensation can change as soon as the baby is born. After childbirth, hair often begins to fall faster.

Normally, on average, a person loses 100 hairs a day. The hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy prevent the hairs from falling off.The increase in estrogen levels keeps most of the hair in the anagen phase (growth) of the hair cycle, which causes less hair loss and makes the hair look dense and thick.

But soon after delivery, estrogen levels begin to decrease and all the hair that was in the anagen phase finally enters the resting phase and begins to fall. Postpartum hair loss can begin any day after the arrival of your baby.

There is not much that can be done to stop it, but simple changes in lifestyle and home remedies can minimize hair loss and promote healthy hair growth.

Handle hair with care

After delivery, it takes a while to form a schedule, since there are many responsibilities to take care of. This often makes you neglect your hair and eventually your hair ends up in very bad condition.

Therefore, the first step to prevent hair loss should be proper hair care.

Wash your hair gently but with a good shampoo, 2 or 3 times a week.
Do not use hot water to wash your hair. Use warm or cold water.
Do not comb, brush or tie your hair when it is wet. Try to keep it loose until it is completely dry.

Avoid the use of hair dryers and other heated hair instruments.
Be gentle when brushing and do not brush more than once a day.

Regular massage with oil increases the circulation of blood in the scalp and conditions the scalp and strengthens the roots of the hair.

Apply liberally warm olive oil or coconut oil to your scalp.
Gently massage your scalp for at least 5 to 10 minutes with the tips of your fingers.
Leave it overnight and wash your hair with a mild shampoo the next morning.
Do this at least 2 or 3 times a week.

You can even massage the scalp with the tips of your fingers without using oil.

Skip the styling

Warming hair with a hair dryer or curling iron can make it look thinner. Try to maintain the sophisticated style and let your hair air dry until the thinning decreases.

Brushing too much can cause your hair to fall into larger groups, so be gentle when brushing and do not brush more than once a day. You can use the extra time to hug your baby or get back to sleep!
